Writer's Workbench and TSR Programs

Although "Diversity Abstract Vagueness Negative Transitions,"  "Prose and Style," "Style," "Diction-Suggest and Check," "Problem Sentences," and "Grammar Capitalization & Punctuation" time out, "Organization and Development," "To Be," "Clarity," "Punctuation of Introductory Elements," and "Parallelism and Punctuation" work just fine.

We have experienced a problem with a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) application which was incompatible with Writer's Workbench.  In this instance, the TSR was part of a remote control program.  The general procedure is to comment out or delete the line calling the TSR in your autoexec.bat or config.sys.

Possible FIX:

1. Comment out the line in autoexec.bat or config.sys calling the TSR

A. Do a "Start, Run," then type "Sysedit"
B. Identify the line in either of these two files causing the TSR to run.
C. "Comment out" the line calling this program by typing "REM" at the beginning of the line(s)
D. Restart the system, fire up Microsoft Word, and watch WWB run

IF THAT DOESN'T WORK...

2. Get rid of everything in autoexec.bat or config.sys

A. Copy autoexec.bat to autoexec.old
B. Delete everything in autoexec.bat
C. Copy config.sys to config.old
D. Delete everything in config.sys
E. Restart the system, fire up Microsoft Word, and watch WWB run
F. Run your other important applications until you find one that does not run (if any)
G. Edit autoexec.bat or config.sys to include the lines required for that application
