Problems with Writer's Workbench and Windows 2000

Windows 2000 has a new feature which removes the "Documents" area in the Windows Registry designated by Microsoft Word from "Tools, Options, File Locations, Documents when it matches the folder or directory specified in "My Documents".

Since Writer's Workbench uses this registry key to check for where your documents are, a Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error '5843' occurs, as illustrated.  This error occurs after running an analysis.

FIX:

1. EMO has posted a Self-Extracting Executable, WWBWin2KWord2K.exe, which will update your system to make Writer's Workbench function properly using Windows 2000.  Please print the current page and follow the instructions.  You will need to exit your browser (and all other applications, ESPECIALLY WORD after downloading the fix.

2. Download the Windows 2000 fix for Word 2000.  (Click here)

3. When prompted, save file to disk and remember where you saved it.

4. Exit your browser and all other applications, especially Microsoft Word.

5. Do this: Start, Run, and browse to the location you saved the WWBWin2KWord2K.exe file.  Unless you have set your browser differently, this is usually the same directory as "My Documents."

6. Select WWBWin2KWord2K.exe, click "Open," then click "OK"

7. Using defaults, follow the instructions in the WinZip Self-Extractor, then in Setup.

8. After installation is complete, the next time you go into Word, the error will not occur.  If you have problems with the installation of the Windows 2000 fix, please let us know at wwbinfo@emo.com; we'll get back with you to help as soon as possible.
