Writer’s Workbench Symptoms if incorrect version of Word is selected

You must select the correct version of Microsoft® Word after installing Writer's Workbench and selecting Writer's Workbench Options!

You can determine which version of Microsoft® Word is installed on your computer by starting Word, Clicking Help, then clicking "About Microsoft Word."  The options include Microsoft® Word 97, Microsoft® Word 2000, or Microsoft® Word 2002 (XP).

If you select the incorrect version of Microsoft® Word during installation of Writer's Workbench, WWB will not operate properly.

 Symptoms are different depending upon what version of Word you are actually using, and what incorrect version of Word you selected at installation.


Using Microsoft® Word '97 and selecting Word 2000 Run-time error '5843' - One of the values passed to this method or property is out of range.

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu, selecting an analysis, and clicking on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, this message appears.  Click the End button and close the analysis or empty document (displayed full screen when this error occurs). Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu.  Select "Word '97" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.


Using Microsoft® Word '97 and selecting Word XP (2002)

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu, selecting an analysis, and click on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, this message appears.  Click the OK button and close the empty document (displayed full screen when this error occurs). Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu.  Select "Word '97" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.


Using Microsoft® Word 2000 and selecting Word '97

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu, selecting an analysis, and clicking on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, a white box appears in the upper left area of the Analysis Programs menu.  After the analysis is complete, your composition appears to the left of the analysis and is on top of the analysis. Click anywhere in the analysis screen and close the analysis by pressing the "Close Analysis!" button.  You should return to your composition.  Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu).  Select "Word 2000" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.


Using Microsoft® Word 2000 and selecting Word XP (2002)

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu, select the "Characteristics - Style Statistics" or some of the other analyses, and click on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, this message appears.  Click the OK button, click on the DocumentX (X is a number) on the taskbar, and close that document. Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu).  Select "Word 2000" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.

 


Using Microsoft® Word XP (2002) and selecting Word '97

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu and click on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, this message might appear.  Click "OK."  Your system may appear to freeze.  Wait for 30 seconds to see if you get the "Writer's Workbench Time Out Error."  If the Time Out error is displayed, click "Cancel" and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu).  Select "Word XP (2002)" for your version of Microsoft Word.

Another symptom of this problem is that the analysis bounces around unreasonably.  Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu).  Select "Word XP (2002)" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.


Using Microsoft® Word XP (2002) and selecting Word 2000

After you click on an analysis from the "Writer's Workbench Analysis Programs" menu and click on "OK" to the "Your analysis will open shortly" message box, this message might appear.  Your system may freeze.  If it does, reboot your system and get back into Word with Writer's Workbench...OR  If you can, click the OK button and close the empty document (displayed full screen when this error occurs). Another symptom of this problem is that the analysis bounces around unreasonably.  Click on the "Analysis Programs" button again and go to the Options Menu by clicking on the Options Menu button (above Words-Capitalization in the upper right corner of the menu).  Select "Word XP (2002)" for your version of Microsoft Word.

The next time you analyze a composition, Writer's Workbench should operate properly.
